Steve Jobs labeled 2011 as “the year of the copycats” in reference to the slew of upcoming tablets from Samsung, HP, Motorola and Blackberry but as Simple Mobile Review recently pointed out, the “innovative” magnet powered iPad Smart Covers are far from the revolutionary next-best-thing-since-sliced-bread that Jobs was intensely marketing them to be.
The cover for the new iPad uses magnets to sleep and wake the iPad when covered and opened respectively. As long as I can recall BlackBerry devices had the ability to sleep when properly holstered. I can recall this feature when I carried a BlackBerry before they became smartphones. Fast forward 11 years and some people have called this innovative, which it was 11 years ago. Well, I guess when Steve Jobs said, "We've always been shameless about stealing great ideas", he really meant it. What’s next? Oh, doesn’t that revolutionary foldable cover that doubles up as a stand look remarkably similar to how this jacket from InCase works? Hmm…
