Enabling SSD TRIM Support On Mac OS X With A Push Of A Button

We all know slapping an SSD drive into your laptop gives you a heck of a speed boost over your piddly little 7200RPM drive. Applications load quicker, you boot faster and you gain that much more geek credibility. If you have an Apple notebook, the problem is that even if you install an aftermarket SSD, you may not be getting the full speed you paid for.

The problem lies in the TRIM command. The TRIM command is one that tells the SSD when files are no longer in use and can be wiped. This command is not supported by Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard so those who are on said operating system are probably not getting their money's worth. Apple has said 10.7 Lion will come with TRIM support, but in true geek fashion, we want it NOW!

To subvert this inconvenience, Oskar Groth has written a program which enables TRIM support on OS X 10.6.7 and it's easy as pushing a button. There is also a means to backup your system file so that if things should go Pete Tong, then there is always that safety net.
