ACER PREVIEWS THE NEW ANDROID 3.0 POWERED ICONIA A500 TABLET

Earlier today, Acer held a small media briefing in downtown KL and offered us a sneak preview at the upcomingAcer Iconia A500 tablet. Powered by a nVidia Tegra 2 processor, we were told that the 10.1-inch tablet will available for purchase be very soon from between RM1599 and RM1999 depending on specifications.

Tech specs
Processor: nVidia Tegra 2 1GHz
Memory: 1GB RAM/16GB ROM
OS
: Android 3.0
Screen: 10.1-inches
Resolution: 1280 x 800
Camera: 5MP
Ports: Micro USB, HDMI-D
Weight: under 800g (WiFi), 810g (WiFi + 3G)
Battery life: 8 hours movie playback
First impressions on the A500? Well, first off, the multitude of ports was impressive. The availability of a micro SD card reader was interesting too, and the DLNA streaming over WiFi feature sounded promising. The device felt solid in the hand, and the one-piece brush aluminum back was a nice touch too. The material does make it a little slippery though, so you will definitely want to get some sort of casing if you do purchase this tablet. The processor was rather snappy and graphic intensive games like Need For Speed ran buttery smooth, but transition between screens did suffer from some jitter. It could be because of Android 3.0, but we can't say for sure since this wasn't the final retail unit.
Acer will be launching a Windows version tomorrow, so we'll be updating your with more details on that when it comes in. You can also check out some additional photos of the A500 after the jump.
NoteAcer also gave us a sneak peak of two upcoming devices in the Iconia tablet range - a 7-inch tablet and a 4.8-inch smartphone-esque device. We weren't allowed to take any photos tho, since these two devices were still in the early engineering stages of development. It's rumored that the 7-incher will retail from RM1099 to RM1499.
