LG To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions By 14 Million Tons in 2011

Everybody is talking about going green so how can you contribute to being friendly to the environment besides the obvious like reuse, reduce and recycle? By using green products from companies like LG of course as the company announce that it is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by almost 14 million tons this year; that is up from its previous record of 12.9 million tons held last year.
With this revised forecast, the company is aiming to achieve its goal of 200 million tons of cumulative reductions from 2009 through 2020. The journey towards LG’s dream so far is achieved not only by improving manufacturing processes, but also by using better logistics and energy-efficient products that brings significant reductions in CO2 at the end-use stage.
“Our aggressive push into green technologies is what made this achievement possible. We’re confident we can reach our ultimate goal of 200 million tons earlier than expected while continuing to deliver real improvements in people’s lives wherever LG has a presence.” – Dr. Skott Ahn, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics.
Story continues after the break.
LG has achieved majority of its energy savings by improving efficiency in its consumer products with the reductions coming from energy-efficient LED TVs and air conditioners, as well as expanding the use of LG’s greener refrigerators and washing machine. The company also hopes to achieve its goal by having better management through its facilities like making more efficient use of humidifiers, replacing old water-heating systems and air conditioners, and reducing waste by-products. Additionally, employee suggestions on how to use facilities more efficiently resulted in 50,000 tons of emission reductions last year. The company will continue its efforts to encourage partners and suppliers to run cleaner operations by identifying and enacting innovative practices to cut back on waste energy used.
