Lenovo Equips University with 10,000 ThinkPad X100e

Recently, Lenovo just completed its largest PC transaction of its kind in the Malaysia private education sector. Not too long ago, the company signed an agreement with Masterskill University College of Health and Sciences (MUCH) to deliver 10,000 units of the ThinkPad X100e ultraportable notebooks.
This is part of the university’s “One Student, One Netbook Project” aimed at providing its students with the right learning tool in quest for knowledge information. Lenovo has already delivered half the units of X100e notebooks as of March 2011 while the rest of the units are expected to be delivered before the end of this year.

“This milestone reinforces Lenovo’s position as the trusted PC choice for corporate sectors. We are proud that the ThinkPad brand continues to be the premium leader in the Malaysia commercial PC space. The ThinkPad X100e provides solid features, leading-edge design and innovation to MUCH and will deliver a great and reliable user experience to the students.” – Khoo Hung Chuan, Country General Manager, Lenovo Malaysia.
More after the jump.
Getting new devices for 10,000 students is not an easy task for MUCH, they have to consider the reliability of the platform and more importantly, look for something that can fulfill the educational needs of the students. According to the Vice Chancellor of MUCH, together with the ThinkVantage Technologies from Lenovo, the X100e is a perfect device for the students of MUCH as they are reliable, cost effective for the next three to five years, as well as trendy in terms of design.
Additionally, like many large organization, the IT team usually has a tough time maintaining such large number of devices at a time just to make sure they are constantly updated to maximize system performance while minimizing security risk. With the ThinkVantage System Update feature, the MUCH IT team can easily sort out through available updates and select only the ones needed specifically.
The X100e notebooks are used today by the students on and off campus for constant access to the Internet and other MUCH online resources for their education needs. When the students move between a wireless and wired environment, the ThinkVantage Access Connection that was deployed by the MUCH IT team is smart enough to make the appropriate connections without any user intervention.
The x100e notebooks also come with ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery system that is able to correct most system corruptions in three minutes or less, making it the fastest recovery solution available in the market today. It is able to pinpoint the corruption, fix it, and at the same time protect all other applications, data, and files.
Enhanced learning experience
Since the deployment of the notebooks, MUCH is already seeing a significant return in its investment from this aspect. From the students’ perspective, they are able to access course materials anywhere, anytime and therefore prepare for lectures ahead of class.
In addition, the easy access to materials by the students has elevated the efficiency and productivity levels for the lecturers. Previously, the first 15 minutes of any lecture that previously catered for administration purposes can now be more efficiently utilized by lecturers to maximize class time and improve the classroom experience for the students.
MUCH is highly pleased and satisfied with the investment that was made with Lenovo. “Throughout the implementation of this project, we were satisfied with the level of service and support afforded to us. Deliveries were timely and responses on any queries or issues were immediate. The best thing I have to say that the quality of the product really speaks for itself. It’s robust and very reliable, and more than superb in meeting the needs of MUCH’s students. We are also pleased that we have chosen to partner with Lenovo that can grow with our needs and requirements and definitely looking forward to future opportunities,” said Dato’ Professor Dr. Nik Rahimah.
